Our Approach

Management to unlock potential

To fully unlock the potential of our herd, good management is essential. The results of our breeding program only become visible when paired with solid day-to-day management. Every day, we work to ensure the health and wellbeing of our animals.

On this page, you’ll learn more about how we work and how we keep our animals as healthy as possible.

Pillars of our management

Hygiene

Strict hygiene helps us keep disease pressure low and maintain the health of the herd.

Nutrition

Balanced nutrition supports the health of our animals and enables efficient milk production.

The graph shows a clear upward trend in the average milk yield of our goats over the years. This is the result of consistent breeding selection and ongoing improvements to our management practices.

To improve management, investments were needed. That’s why we built new barns around 2015 and again in 2021. During these construction phases, we had less time to focus on the goats, which explains the temporary dips in the production curve.

Watch the video of the moment our goats entered their new barn for the first time, an unforgettable milestone for us.

Hygiene

Hygiene is key to reducing illness and minimizing infection pressure.

Young animals are housed separately from the adults in well-insulated, mechanically ventilated spaces to protect their health. Healthy animals grow optimally, and optimal growth leads to stronger immunity.

Balanced nutrition

A well-designed feeding plan, consistent feeding times, and established routines help us minimize mistakes and avoid stress. This keeps our animals healthy and supports a stable, reliable milk production.

Data

We collect a wealth of daily data from our animals, through milk testing, growth tracking in young stock, and more. But we also go a step further. Using our individual concentrate feeding system and the URBAN automatic milk feeder, we track feed intake and efficiency on an individual level.

This data gives us deeper insight into the performance of our goats and helps us make strategic decisions that benefit both our operations and our breeding program.

We’re always looking for new ways to use this data. While we know we’re not yet using it to its full potential, we believe it holds even more value for the future.
